Shielding of Court Records

The following is a synopsis of the law regarding shielding of court records. It is not intended to be a complete summary of the law and should not take the place of legal advice from an attorney:

Anytime a case is heard in court, a record is created of everything that occurs in the case (ie. documents filed, testimony given, etc.). This record is publicly available and can often be found online. These records can make it difficult for those who have domestic violence cases, etc. to get employment, as most potential employers run basic internet checks on potential employees. However, such records can often be shielded from public view, rendering them invisible.
